Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona slumped to defeats on a day of shock results in La Liga.
David Beckham's Real Madrid continued their poor run of form by losing to Espanyol, defender Daniel Jarque scoring the only goal.
Real ended the match with only nine men after Sergio Ramos and Julio Baptista were sent off.
In the evening game, Atletico Madrid ran out deserved 2-1 winners over a below-par Barcelona.

Serie A leaders Juventus maintained their 100% start to the season with a 2-1 home win over Ascoli. Alessandro Del Piero made the most of his first start of the campaign, scoring twice to give the Italian champions nine points from three games.
They are two ahead of Fiorentina, who beat Udinese 4-2 to go level on seven points with Lazio and Palermo.
Lazio beat Treviso 3-1 and Palermo won 2-1 at Siena.AC Milan captain Paolo Maldini equalled the Serie A appearance record when he lined up against Sampdoria.
But the gloss was taken off the achievement, which puts Maldini level with Dino Zoff on 570 appearances, when Milan let slip an early lead to lose 2-1.
Internazionale have six points, two ahead of Milan, after their 3-0 home win over Lecce.
Livorno failed to join Juventus on nine points when they were held 0-0 at home to Roma.
GERMANY
Bayern Munich stretched their Bundesliga winning streak to a record 14 matches with a 1-0 victory over Hanover 96.
Argentine midfielder Martin Demichelis headed home Willy Sagnol's cross in the 10th minute to make it five wins from five for Bayern this season. It took them past the record of 13 victories they set in 1981 and kept them two points clear of Werder Bremen, who came back to beat Borussia Dortmund 3-2.
Hamburg SV dropped their first points of the season with a 1-1 draw at home to Eintracht Frankfurt.
VfB Stuttgart claimed their first league victory of the campaign, winning 2-1 at bottom club Mainz.
FRANCE
Sylvain Wiltord scored a second-half equaliser as leaders Lyon drew 1-1 at Bordeaux to preserve their unbeaten record.
Wiltord's 64th-minute volley cancelled out a sixth-minute strike from Vladimir Smicer. Lyon are three points ahead of Le Mans, who beat Sochaux 2-1 with a winner from Vinicius De Melo.
Paris St Germain were beaten 3-0 by St Etienne, who move ahead of them into third place.
Lille climbed to fourth in the standings with 12 points after a 4-0 thrashing of 10-man Nice.
NETHERLANDS
Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven saw their 21-match unbeaten run come to an end as they lost 1-0 at Groningen, Yuri Cornelisse hitting the winner just before half-time.
PSV stay fourth, five points behind AZ Alkmaar, Feyenoord and RKC Waalwijk, who all have five wins from five games. Shota Arveladze and Kenneth Perez both scored twice as AZ beat Ajax 4-2, Feyenoord crushed Heerenveen 5-1 and RKC won 2-0 at Heracles Almelo.
Ajax are eighth on six points with a match in hand.
