Lizarazu last played French domestic football with Bordeaux |
France full-back Bixente Lizarazu has joined Marseille on a two-year deal. The veteran returns to his home country after playing abroad for eight years with Athletic Bilbao and Bayern Munich.
"We're very pleased to have signed him," said club president Christophe Bouchet, who has also agreed a 7m fee for Lyon striker Peguy Luyindula.
The 34-year-old Lizarazu, a 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 winner with 97 caps, was released by Bayern after seven seasons in the Bundesliga.
Luyindula is seen as an ideal replacement for Didier Drogba, although Marseille have yet to agree personal terms with the player.
Brazilian midfielder Eduardo Costa, 21, also looks certain to move to the Velodrome from Bordeaux, on a four-year deal, to replace midfielder Mathieu Flamini who has joined Arsenal.
