Marseille coach Jose Anigo claimed Fabien Barthez's red card condemned them to defeat against Valencia in the Uefa Cup final in Gothenburg. Barthez was sent off in first half injury time for a foul on Mista, which led to Valencia taking the lead through Vicente's penalty in a 2-0 win.
Anigo said: "The red card changed the match. It was a bit hard.
"Sometimes in similar situations you only have a yellow card. We are really disappointed, especially for the fans."
He added: "I would have loved for the match to have finished 11 against 11 because with a player less it became very complicated.
"The first half was pretty even but with the dismissal of Fabien everything changed.
"But we mustn't take anything away from the players who had a great run in the competition.
"I feel really sorry for the Marseille supporters."
