Real Madrid coach Carlos Queiroz has told BBC Sport he expects David Beckham to be a Real Madrid player next season. Media speculation has linked the England captain with a move back to the Premiership with Chelsea or Arsenal.
But Queiroz believes Beckham will stay because of the opportunities he gets to play in the centre of midfield.
"I believe David Beckham will be here next season. With more experience, his maturing decisions and skill, I believe he can improve," said Queiroz.
Beckham is also understood to have told Real president Florentino Perez that after the club's miserable current season, he wants to stay another year to prove himself.
Real could also be desperate to hold on to Beckham, who signed a four-year deal in July 2003, for financial reasons. Our correspondent also revealed the 29-year-old recently signed a contract with multi-national company Gillette worth 40m - and Spanish league rules dictate that Real would be entitled to half this sum.
Meanwhile Beckham's former team-mate Rio Ferdinand hopes the midfielder would consider a return to Manchester United if he did decide to turn his back on Spain.
"He left the club on good terms and to have the England captain back would be great. If he did come back I am sure he would be welcomed," Ferdinand said.
However, United chief executive David Gill has made it clear there will be no Old Trafford return for Beckham.
"Beckham won't be coming back to United," he insisted. "He has moved on and so has the club."
Real's poor season means that there has been speculation Queiroz himself will be forced out in the summer but the ex-Manchester United assistant manager says he intends to stay with Madrid.
"I have a contract for one more year," Queiroz insisted.
