Madrid changes shock Owen

The news rules out any immediate move for England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson or ex-Newcastle boss Sir Bobby Robson, who had been tipped to take over.

"Bobby Robson and the other names we have received are big coaches and we have big respect for them," Real secretary Jose Luis Cerrano said.

"But we cannot have thoughts about any coach other than the one we have."

Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Garcia Remon has been promoted from assistant coach following the shock departure of Jose Antonio Camacho on Monday.

He remains on a two-year contract, which was signed in tandem with Camacho in the summer.

But it remains unclear whether his deal has been improved or extended following his surprise promotion.

"He and Senor Camacho had two-year contracts when they arrived and there is nothing to say this has changed," a club spokeswoman told BBC Sport.

Former Sporting Gijon and Numancia coach Garcia Remon made a winning start at the Bernabeu on Tuesday when a David Beckham free-kick secured a 1-0 win over Osasuna.

That was enough to convince the club that they have made the right decision in appointing Garcia Remon.

Cerrano added: "He won the first game so we cannot think of sending him away!

"Many people have contacted us in the last few days offering coaches but Mr Garcia Remon has been appointed by the president, Florentino Perez, and has a two-year contract.

"There is nothing to say about a new coach because Mr Garcia Remon is going to be in the position of senior coach for the future.

"For how long, who knows? One year, two years, I don't know.

"No-one ever knows these things but he is the coach and no-one is thinking about a new one."
