Ronaldo plea to Beckham
Beckham has played well for Madrid - but his private life has been the subject of speculation
Ronaldo has told fellow Real Madrid superstar David Beckham to stay at the club and ignore any Chelsea advances.

"It would be a pity to lose David now after he has spent a year establishing himself in Madrid," said Ronaldo.

He added: "I think Chelsea might have lots of money but they have a long, long way to go if they want to catch up with Real Madrid.

"We have the trophies and the history that comes with being successful over many decades."

Real Madrid have won the European Cup a record nine times and are famed for their "galacticos" including Ronaldo, Beckham , Zinedinae Zidane, Roberto Carlos and Raul.

"You cannot simply acquire that prestige overnight," said Brazil World Cup winner Ronaldo.

He has been a really good player for us in his first year and he expects to stay

"I know that Abramovich has a lot of money but I think it will take him a long time to build a club who are like Real Madrid."

Chelsea have been linked with bringing Beckham back to England and comments from a candidate to take over as Real president have also put a question mark over the England captain's Bernabeu future.

Sobrino is aiming to oust Florentino Perez in the elections this summer and was reported as saying: "Beckham has to change. I would listen to offers for him."

But Ronaldo added: "He has been a really good player for us in his first year and he expects to stay.

"He has made a big difference to the way I play in the team and the precision of his passing and his crossing is a great asset.

"It has been those kind of performances that have told me that David is really happy at Real Madrid.

"I am delighted to be playing alongside him in Madrid."
