Ronaldinho is set to leave PSG |
Manchester United face a straight fight with Real Madrid to sign Brazil's World Cup winner Ronaldinho after Barcelona admitted they had been priced out of the deal.
Barcelona vice-president Sandro Rosell revealed United and Real had both offered 13.9m for the Paris St Germain star, who is Sir Alex Ferguson's top target following the sale of David Beckham.
United are understood to remain favourites to clinch a deal because Ronaldinho fears he may not get regular first-team football at The Bernabeu.
Barcelona have appointed Frank Rijkaard as their new coach and are hoping to bring in a collection of high-profile signings.
But Rosell said: "We want Ronaldinho but our offer is lower than Manchester United and Real Madrid, who have both offered 13.9m, and we are not going to enter into a fight between them.
"Paris St Germain now have new owners as well who want to keep the player, which makes it more difficult."
PSG are also alleged to be angry with United's approach to the deal and sources in France claim Real preesident Florentino Perez was scheduled to arrive in Paris on Monday to discuss the deal.
