![]() | Stam faces lengthy ban ![]() Stam tested positive for nandrolone on 13 October Italy's anti-doping officials have recommended that Lazio's Jaap Stam should be suspended from football for 10 months and fined 200 million lire, 64,000. The former Manchester United defender tested positive for nandrolone on 13 October and a follow-up counter-analysis test gave a similar result. Holland international Stam, who left Old Trafford for 16.5m in August, met with anti-doping chiefs on Friday. Should Italy's football association, the FIGC, agree with the advice, Stam would miss the remainder of the Italian season. The 29-year-old has strongly denied taking any banned substances. Lazio team-mate Fernando Couto and Juventus' Edgar Davids failed similar tests last season while Josep Guardiola has failed two tests since joining Brescia. | See also: Other top Europe stories: Links to more Europe stories are at the foot of the page. | ||
