A hugely respected and experienced coach, Giovanni Trapattoni needs to win a trophy with Italy to complete his footballing CV. 'Trap' began his coaching career with AC Milan and has also managed Juventus, Inter, Bayern Munich and Fiorentina.
Over the past 25 years he has won eight league titles, a European Cup, a Cup Winners' Cup, three Uefa Cups, the Super Cup and two Italian Cups.
He replaced Dino Zoff after Euro 2000 but was fortunate to keep his job following Italy's surprise World Cup exit to South Korea two years later.
Accused of being too negative in the Far East, Trap now uses a 4-2-3-1 system to incorporate the talents of Christian Vieri, Francesco Totti and Alessandro del Piero into his starting XI.
The veteran tactician will be hoping to lead the Azzurri to their first European Championship title since 1968.
Did you know? Trap became first foreign coach to win the Bundesliga when he led Bayern Munich to the title in 1997.
