Sven-Goran Eriksson confirmed he would stay on as England coach after the Euro 2004 defeat at the hands of Portugal. The Swede signed a contract extension to 2008 in March and said he was determined to lead England past the quarter-finals of a major tournament.
"Yes, I am going to stay," said Eriksson after the 6-5 penalty loss: "After all the fuss, yes I am staying.
"It's the World Cup in two years and I want more than quarter-finals in big tournaments, maybe even the final."
England's World Cup qualifying campaign starts in September, with back-to-back Group Six games against Austria and Poland followed by fixtures against Wales, Azerbaijan and Northern Ireland.
The Football Association, meanwhile, has repeatedly made it clear that Eriksson has its undivided support.
