England captain David Beckham says he will be fit for Euro 2004 despite picking up an injury during the disappointing 1-1 draw with Japan. Beckham suffered a blow to his ankle in the second half but says he will be fit for the game against France on 13 June.
"I got a kick on the ankle towards the end of the season and it happened again," said Beckham.
"It's meant I haven't trained properly for 10 days or so but I'll be fine for the France match, no question."
Beckham revealed that the England players were tired after fading badly at the City of Manchester Stadium.
He added: "Every player needed the workout and the pace of the game was just what we wanted, but I think tiredness did come into it.
"We played well, passed the ball around nicely for half an hour but then faded.
"It's down to the manager now as to how much we get to relax before Euro 2004. I think he'll look after us and we should be fine in Portugal."
England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson insisted he was not concerned by his side's lacklustre second-half display.
He said: "We got tired, not because of our fitness levels, but because we'd been training hard before the game.
"When we were fresh we did extremely well. We played excellent football, created chances and it was as well as we have played for a long time.
"We are fitter now than we were two years ago and I'm very optimistic about that.
"For the first 30 minutes I was extremely happy with all of them. "David Beckham and Gary Neville picked up knocks, but they are no problem."
Frank Lampard declared himself happy with his display after being picked ahead of Nicky Butt to play the midfield holding role.
"So much has been made of the me and Nicky Butt situation but we have got to concentrate on the team," said Lampard.
"I think I can play that position and occasionally get forward when we've got players who can hold for me.
"I'm pretty pleased. I think I can improve if I get another chance."
