FULL-TIME IN EXTRA-TIME: The fate of Sweden and Holland will now be decided by penalties, the second time in this championship after the drama of England-Portugal on Thursday.
118 mins: Mellberg gets first to Kallstrom's left-wing corner but the Aston Villa defender can only send the ball over with a combination of his head and shoulder.
116 mins: Ljungberg finds himself in acres of space on the edge of the Holland box after a failed clearance, but sees his shot crash agonisingly off the post and away for safety.
112 mins: Heitinga's attempted clearance ricochets to Larsson six yards out, and the striker swivels before lashing in a left-footed shot that clips off the top of Van der Sar's crossbar.
111 mins: Van Nistelrooy finally has the ball in the net with a sharp right-footed finish, but the hard-working striker is flagged correctly for offside.
108 mins: Cocu gets to a cross from the right before Isaksson but can only divert his header wide.
107 mins: Seedorf hits a stunning free-kick from 25 yards that is arching into the top corner before Isaksson leaps across to tip the ball away for a corner.
HALF-TIME IN EXTRA-TIME: The first period ends, with both sides having had chances to win it on the silver goal. The prospect of a semi-final tie with hosts Portugal still awaits, but Holland will not want it to go to penalties - they have lost four out of four shoot-outs in competitive football.
105 mins: Kallstrom goes closer, this time latching onto a weak clearing header in the Holland box to volley right-footed into the side-netting.
103 mins: Kallstrom strikes a free-kick from 30 yards hopelessly high, an effort that perhaps sums up the Swedish attacking threat.
99 mins: Seedorf is teed up 25 yards out and his right-foot effort is pushed away by Isaksson. From the resulting cross from the right Van Nistelrooy gets ahead of Mellberg to send in a right-foot shot just wide with Isaksson nowhere.
93 mins: Robben lashes in a left-foot shot that swerves viciously in the air and deceives Isaksson, who nervously deflects the ball onto his left-hand post where Makaay just fails to get the all-important touch.
92 mins: Van Nistelrooy turns smartly in the Sweden box and sends in a left-foot shot that drifts wide.
FULL-TIME: The final whistle goes in Faro-Loul and neither side in truth has deserved to win the tie during the 90 minutes.
Holland mounted a concerted spell of pressure towards the end as Sweden tired, but it was largely a frustrating affair with both sides cancelling each other out. The prospect of penalties once again looms large at Euro 2004.
90 + 2 mins: Makaay catches a right-foot volley sweetly but the ball is once again too high to trouble Isaksson.
90 mins: Sweden fail to properly clear another long throw and Reiziger's goalbound shot from 20 yards is deflected wide for a corner. As the ball is pumped in again, this time from Van Bronckhorst down the left, Van Nistelrooy can only head wide.
89 mins: Ostlund has to head the ball away from inside his own six-yard box after Stam had dangerously headed on a long throw.
88 mins: Ostlund is booked for bringing down Robben with a pull of his shirt.
87 mins: Finally Van Nistelrooy has a partner up front as Makaay replaces the disappointing Van der Meyde.
83 mins: Kallstrom latches onto an Ibrahimovic header on the right-hand side of the area but his shot is blocked.
81 mins: Sweden bring on Kallstrom in a bid to pose more of an attacking threat against Holland.
75 mins: Svensson plays in Ljungberg on the edge of the Holland area and the midfielder does a neat Cruyff turn and blasts a shot just wide with Van der Sar watching on.
66 mins: Stam dances past two Swedish players and slams in a left-foot shot that misses Isaksson's left-hand post by two yards.
62 mins: Van Nistelrooy controls a raking Seedorf pass and sees his shot saved by Isaksson, with the ball rebounding back off Van Nistelrooy and dribbling agonisingly wide of the goal.
61 mins: Heitinga comes on as a replacement for Davids.
58 mins: Ibrahimovic skips past one player and races into the box only to fall under a challenge from Stam. The Ajax frontman is perhaps harshly cautioned by referee Lubos Michel.
56 mins: Larsson gets on the end of a long cross into the area and heads the ball across goal where Stam carelessly mis-kicks, and Ibrahimovic's resulting right-foot shot is cleared off the line. A lucky escape for Stam.
48 mins: Van der Meyde is booked for a high challenge leading with his knee on Nilsson.
47 mins: The ball drops to Van Nistelrooy in the Sweden area from a long throw, and he flicks the ball with the heel of his right foot - a la Ibrahimovic against Italy - only to see it drift over the bar.
46 mins: Robben races away down the left and centres for Van Nistelrooy, but the four-goal striker heads the ball onto his shoulder and it loops harmlessly high.
HALF-TIME: The whistle blows at the Algarve Stadium and it has been a lacklustre contest so far between two of the tournament's most attractive attacking teams.
45 mins: Ibrahimovic tees up Svensson and his right-foot shot is nonchalantly gathered by Van der Sar.
42 mins: Jonson gets in behind Van Bronckhorst down the Sweden right and cuts the ball back to Svensson, who sees a goalbound shot blocked by Bouma.
41 mins: Van Nistelrooy goes down in the Sweden area after a tussle with Mellberg, and the Manchester United striker is perhaps fortunate not to be cautioned for simulation.
35 mins: De Boer has not recovered from the tackle on Ljungberg when he required treatment and he makes way for Bouma. Cocu takes over the captaincy.
33 mins: Cocu hits a 25-yard shot straight at Isaksson but the keeper decides to punch the ball away and is lucky to see it fly off his gloves and over the bar.
32 mins: Jakobsson's free-kick clips off the top of Cocu's head and goes out for a corner. Van der Sar flaps at the cross and is lucky to survive as Van Bronckhorst clears.
30 mins: De Boer concedes another free-kick on the edge of the Holland penalty area after a dangerous challenge on Ljungberg.
27 mins: Reiziger lashes in a shot from 20 yards that crashes past the post after a neat lay-off from Van Nistelrooy.
25 mins: Larsson tries to surprise Van der Sar from the free-kick but the former Celtic striker curls it over the wall and harmlessly wide.
24 mins: Ljungberg is hauled down by Van Bronckhorst 30 yards from the Dutch goal in a central position.
18 mins: Sweden fail to clear a long throw into their box and Van Nistelrooy manages to turn and shoot, but his right-foot effort is blocked by Mellberg.
15 mins: Seedorf fires a free-kick in from 35 yards that Isaksson easily gathers.
10 mins: Robben cuts in from the right past Nilsson and hits a left-foot screamer that Isaksson does well to tip acrobatically over the bar.
8 mins: Holland produce the most fluent attacking move so far down their right with Robben involved, but Reiziger's cross is gathered by Isaksson.
6 mins: The bearded Ostlund's first contribution to Euro 2004 is a clumsy late challenge on Van der Meyde that gives away a free-kick.
3 mins: Larsson goes for a high ball in the Holland area but catches Van der Sar with his follow-through and concedes a free-kick.
2 mins: The ball falls to Ibrahimovic inside the Dutch area, but the big striker lets the ball get away from him and fouls Van Bronckhorst trying to recover the ball.
1945: Sweden kick off the game at the Algarve Stadium.
1930 BST: The teams limber up on a swelteringly hot evening in Faro-Loule, with both squads looking comfortable and at home in the surroundings.
As per usual for a game involving the Dutch there are waves of orange throughout the stadium, though the Swedes have tried to match them with yellow also featuring heavily.
The winners know a mouth-watering semi-final contest with hosts Portugal awaits in Lisbon next Wednesday.
Team news: Sweden defender Teddy Lucic misses out again after failing to recover from a rib injury suffered during their 5-0 win over Bulgaria.
Alexander Ostlund steps in for the suspended Erik Edman at left-back and Tobias Linderoth returns from a ban to take the place of Kim Kallstrom.
Holland are unchanged from their 3-0 victory over Latvia, with four-goal Ruud van Nistelrooy recovering from a groin problem to start in attack.
Frank de Boer and Michael Reiziger keep their places in defence ahead of Wilfred Bouma and Johnny Heitinga.
