England

David James - 6: Was not given a single shot to save but looked far from commanding dealing with high balls.

Gary Neville - 6: Coped well enough with his defensive duties. Offered very little in attack until he finally got forward to cross for Gerrard's goal.

Sol Campbell - 7: Helped England weather some early Swiss pressure with several important interventions. A solid overall display.

John Terry - 6: Looked shaky on his return, giving away two dangerous early free-kicks and failing to fully clear his lines on a number of occasions.

Ashley Cole - 7: Caught out of position a couple of times but as usual offered an extra attacking dimension down the left.

David Beckham - 6: Again well short of his inspirational best, but began to rediscover his range of passing and had a hand in the third goal.

Paul Scholes - 6: Looked lively in the first half, as against France, but his influence waned after the break. The goal drought continues.

Steven Gerrard - 8: Banished his moment of madness against France with a dominant display. Excellent in the second half and deserved his goal.

Frank Lampard - 6: Opened up the Swiss defence with some excellent passes but, like Scholes, faded in the second half.

Wayne Rooney - 9 (STAR MAN): Picked up an early booking but was perfectly placed to head home Owen's cross and his fierce shot for England's second killed the game.

Michael Owen - 6: Again looked short on confidence, with some poor touches in promising positions. But his cross to set up Rooney's goal was inch-perfect.

Owen Hargreaves (replaced Paul Scholes, 70 mins): Wasted a late attack by shooting when he should have passed. Took a painful knock to the ankle.

Darius Vassell (replaced Michael Owen, 72 mins): Outmuscled his marker to set up England's second. Should have scored himself late on.

Kieron Dyer (replaced Wayne Rooney, 82 mins): Little chance to get into the game.
