Stoke boss Tony Pulis felt referee Lee Probert was wrong to disallow Tuncay's goal as his side lost 1-0 to Everton.

With the score at 0-0, Tuncay's strike was ruled out for a push on Leighton Baines and Everton capitalised to earn victory with a goal from Yakubu.

Pulis said: "It was a very, very poor decision. It doesn't help when you don't get proper decisions.

"You can't keep bleating about it but it's not Tuncay's contact that makes Baines fall."

Pulis believes Stoke have frequently been on the wrong end of decision by referees this season, adding: "I'm really disappointed with the disallowed goal. It's a really poor decision which has gone against us again."

The contest between two teams in mid-table was fairly evenly contested, and although there was more quality about Everton's build-up play, Stoke had chances of their own and generally defended well.

However Pulis was disappointed about his team's inability to stop Yakubu ending his early season goal drought.

"I thought it was a very even game. It was tight and when you get opportunities in tight games you have to take them," added Pulis.

"For the goal Everton scored there were two mistakes by Danny Collins and Abdoulaye Faye.

"We have had three really tough games this week. We didn't get back to Stoke until 3.30am on Thursday morning.

"Then to come to Goodison Park, which is always a tough place to come, and give the performance we have done, we are very disappointed not to come away with something."

Everton counterpart David Moyes was delighted with the contribution of Yakubu and tipped the striker to continue his improvement in form.

"It is great for Yak to get the goal. If you work hard the supporters appreciate you and your team-mates appreciate you," he said.

"Yak has certainly improved his work and he is starting to feel more confident himself. It would be great if we could get back the old Yakubu.

"He is certainly getting much more like it and I think you can sense the crowd feel that way. I thought he held the ball up well, brought people into the game.

"He had a chance in the first half and I am sure he will be disappointed he didn't do better."

Moyes feels the strikers in his squad, of whom Yakubu was the only one to start although Louis Saha was a second-half substitute, require a more ruthless streak.

"You need your strikers to do something. Top clubs have strikers who do things to win games - Rooney, Drogba, Torres," he said.

"We needed someone to do something today and it was Yak skipping past and rifling one home."
