Wolves manager Mick McCarthy said he had no complaints about Karl Henry's straight red card in the 11th minute of his team's 2-0 defeat at Wigan.
Starting with the worst disciplinary record in the Premier League, Wolves' reputation was further dented by Henry's challenge on Jordi Gomez.
McCarthy said: "I have no arguments with the sending-off, it was reckless.
"Given that our reputation in recent weeks has been soured because of tackles it's disappointing."
Gomez grabbed the opener in the second half with a fine free-kick before Hugo Rodallega made sure of the points as Wigan picked up their first home win of the season.
And Latics boss Roberto Martinez was left in no doubts about the severity of a challenge that caught Gomez late and spun him through the air.
He said: "I just felt it was a broken leg. The excessive force and how reckless he was meant it was a real worry for us. Jordi was very, very fortunate to escape damage. After that I didn't want the sending off because in a way you become anxious with everyone expecting a win.
"But the way we regrouped and found the solutions in the second half was very pleasing. It was a mature performance."
Martinez proud of Wigan players
McCarthy said there was no malicious intent from Henry when making his mistimed challenge on Gomez: "He's not that way inclined, he doesn't kick people."
Referring to his team in general, he added: "There's no problems with discipline and attitude at the club."
