15 & 16 August: The season begins and the previous year's top four look to continue their dominance. Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United win their matches, but Liverpool lose at Spurs and are never in the title race
29 August: Manchester United come from a goal down to beat Arsenal 2-1 at Old Trafford. Abou Diaby scores an own goal to give Sir Alex Ferguson's side the three points
12 & 20 September: Manchester City deal several blows to the title contenders during the season. In September they beat Arsenal 4-2, but lose 4-3 in the Manchester derby as Michael Owen scores a 96th minute winner
17 October: Table-topping Chelsea lose their first match of the season at Wigan in September, then a second defeat in three games comes at Aston Villa, who win 2-1
8 & 29 November: John Terry scores the only goal of the game against Manchester United, as Chelsea move five points clear with a 1-0 win. A 3-0 victory at Arsenal in late November cements their position as leaders
December: Chelsea have a troubled month - losing to Manchester City and drawing three. Manchester United lose 3-0 at Fulham, but there's festive cheer for Arsenal who win five, including a 2-1 victory at Anfield
31 January: Having gone 10 games unbeaten since their loss to Chelsea, Arsenal are brushed aside 3-1 by Manchester United. An inspired Nani and a Wayne Rooney goal move United to within a point of leaders Chelsea
7 & 10 February: Chelsea are the next to do the double over Arsenal, as Didier Drogba scores two first-half goals in a 2-0 win. But the Blues leave the door open for their rivals as they lose at Everton in their next match
20 February: Everton are at it again 10 days later, this time it's Manchester United who lose at Goodison Park, as the Toffees win 3-1
27 February: Manchester City win 4-2 at Stamford Bridge to keep Manchester United and Arsenal hot on the heels of Chelsea. United trail by two points, Arsenal by three
February & March: Arsenal go on a fabulous run - winning six in a row - but a bizarre injury-time equaliser by Birmingham costs them two points, and they fall four points behind leaders Manchester United
3 April: Manchester United are in superb form in March - winning five consecutive matches. But they lose Wayne Rooney to injury five days before the battle of first and second at Old Trafford, which Chelsea win 2-1 to go top
14 April: Arsenal keep their championship hopes alive with a last-minute winner against Wolves on 3 April, but then lose their first north London derby in 11 years as Spurs come out 2-1 winners
17 & 18 April: A significant weekend in the title race. Manchester United get a last minute 1-0 win at Eastlands, Chelsea lose 2-1 at Tottenham and Arsenal throw away a 2-0 lead at Wigan to lose 3-2 and end their title hopes
24 & 25 April: The top two win again - Chelsea thrash Stoke 7-0, and Manchester United beat fourth-placed Spurs 3-1. Ryan Giggs scores United's third goal from the penalty spot
2 May: Chelsea secure a potentially pivotal 2-0 victory at Anfield, with Frank Lampard scoring their second. Nani keeps Manchester United's title hopes alive though, by netting the only goal of the game at Sunderland
9 May: As the final day beckons, Carlo Ancelotti's Chelsea hold a one-point lead over Sir Alex Ferguson's side. A win at home to Wigan would see the Blues lift the title and render United's result against Stoke irrelevant
9 May: United fans continue their protests against the club's owners even as their team battles for the title - and despite losing Wayne Rooney to injury, they defeat Stoke 4-0
9 May: Despite United's win, they are powerless to influence events at Stamford Bridge where Chelsea overpower Wigan 8-0 to win their fourth title - and their first since 2006 - in emphatic style
