Caborn stepped down as sports minister to spearhead the 2018 bid |
England's 2018 World Cup ambassador Richard Caborn does not think plans to play Premier League games overseas will affect the Football Association's bid. Fifa president Sepp Blatter says the "39th game" proposal may harm England's attempt to host the tournament.
But former sports minister Caborn says they are separate issues.
He told BBC London 94.9: "That is a discussion between Fifa and the Premier League. It has nothing to do with the FA, or indeed the bid for 2018."
Caborn is confident that England's bid remains on track.
"Even though there will be difficulties on the way, they will be resolved," he added.
"We're keeping very close to Fifa and I had a long discussion with Sepp Blatter the week before last.
"I think he is very clear that we will give a very professional approach to this, that we will give a very compelling bid when the opportunity arises.
"Not only that, we will give both a legacy for both this county and a legacy for Fifa as well if we get the opportunity to run the World Cup in 2018."
