Southgate to assess preparations
Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate
Southgate must work out how to win away from home
Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate will reassess the way he prepares his side for away games after Monday's 1-0 defeat at Manchester City.

He said: "I don't feel there is a particular issue about playing away from home but I will have to look at what we have done prior to the game.

"We did not start well at all. We were dull and lifeless."

City boss Stuart Pearce, who, like Southgate, has been much criticised, said: "We showed a lot of character."

Pearce added: "It wasn't until the last 15 minutes that Middlesbrough really put us under any pressure."

And there lies the problem for Boro, who have yet to win a Premiership game on their travels this season.

Even Southgate admitted: "While we might have sneaked it at the end, over the course of the game it would have been undeserved."

Perhaps even more perplexing is the case of City, who have also yet to take three points on the road but are unbeaten at home - where they have not even conceded a goal.

Pearce stated: "We need to start getting some results on the road to make it a little bit more relaxing at home."
