Sturrock set for Saints

Hoddle ruled out a comeback with his former club because he felt he did not have the full backing of the board.

He has been out of work since being axed by Tottenham in September but he said: "My plans are no different - I would love to get back into the game.

"I have had four or five offers, including one from Nigeria, but they have not been right."

Hoddle revealed on Wednesday that he would not be returning to St Mary's and he admitted: "It has been a difficult decision but it is about what is right for the club."

However, the former England boss has insisted that he would relish a comeback at the helm of a Premiership club.

He confirmed: "I would like to get back in, preferably in the Premiership, but there are all kinds of challenges.

"I think I have got a wide span, including going abroad, and you look at things and make a decision.

"I would not go abroad to get away from the spotlight - it would have to be right for football reasons.

"I went as a player and enjoyed it and have seen other managers go abroad.

"I am only 46, relatively young and it would be good - I have got an open mind.

"I really feel that after leaving just six games into the season at Tottenham that I have still got the energy and there is a lot of motivation inside me.

"In the short period of just over 10 years I have had all sorts of jobs - from England to Swindon - and that is a good range of experience."
