Wolves 1-1 NewcastleAlan Shearer's golden spell in front of goal continued at Molineux - but it was not enough to give Newcastle United victory against resilient Wolves.
Newcastle captain Shearer struck his 12th Premiership goal of the season to equalise four minutes after Nathan Blake gave Wolves a first-half lead.
And despite Newcastle dominating possession after the break, it was Wolves who came closest to claiming the victory with Joey Gudjonsson and Henri Camara both striking the woodwork.
Newcastle boss Sir Bobby Robson may have been happy to secure a point with his side forced to play less than 48 hours after their Uefa Cup win against Basle.
Newcastle restored Jonathan Woodgate and Lee Bowyer to their line-up - while Wolves gave a surprise recall to Keith Andrews after his loan spell at Stoke City with captain Paul Ince absent.
Newcastle controlled the early exchanges and could have taken the lead twice within the first 20 minutes.
Shearer rattled the Wolves bar with an acrobatic volley from Aaron Hughes' cross and Titus Bramble sent a dreadful header wide when unmarked only six yards out.
But Wolves, almost inevitably, made Newcastle pay for their generosity when a defensive lapse gave Blake the chance to put them ahead after 26 minutes.

Alex Rae's long ball sparked a misunderstanding between Woodgate and goalkeeper Shay Given, who misjudged his dash from goal.
Blake rounded the keeper and took his time before beating Woodgate on the line.
The lead lasted only four minutes, and it was another masterly piece of strike play by Shearer that allowed Newcastle to restore equality.
Lomana LuaLua's pass was perfect for Shearer's run into the penalty area, and the former England captain steered an expert finish across Michael Oakes.
Wolves suffered double frustration as the interval approached, with Molineux reacting furiously when referee Steve Bennett ignored penalty appeals as Blake tumbled under challenge from Bramble.
Replays showed the offence was committed outside the area, but it was a clear foul.
And then Gudjonsson slid a finish wide of the post with the goal gaping after good work by Mark Kennedy.
Newcastle were the dominant force after the break, but a mixture of poor passing and a resilient Wolves rearguard kept chances to a minimum. Blake almost delivered a perfect counter punch with a header that flew over.
Both managers made changes with 15 minutes left, Kenny Miller replacing Kennedy while Newcastle sent on Shola Ameobi and Nobby Solano for LuaLua and Lee Bowyer.
And yet, for all Newcastle's domination, it was Wolves who almost snatched the lead with nine minutes left.
Gudjonsson's 20-yard free-kick beat Given, but struck the outside of an upright and bounced to safety.
Then it was Newcastle's turn to direct their anger at referee Bennett when he ignored Jody Craddock's clear handball from Olivier Bernard's cross.
Wolves then almost snatched victory in injury time, when Camara's header hit the bar from Rae's cross.
