Man City thrash Bolton
Shaun Wright-Phillips in action
Man City 6-2 Bolton

A 10-man Manchester City side powered past local rivals Bolton to secure just their second Premiership win at their new home.

Shaun Wright-Phillips and Nicolas Anelka both netted twice, while Silvain Distin and Claudio Reyna notched up one each in an emphatic win at the City of Manchester Stadium.

Even Wright-Phillips' red card in 62nd minute failed to dampen the high spirits in the home camp as Kevin Keegan's side recorded their biggest ever Premiership win.

But it was hugely disappointing day for Bolton who had started so brightly in the first half and failed to take advantage of the extra man after the break.

The visitors were first to get on the scoresheet, just 25 minutes into the game, when Kevin Nolan poked in a blocked shot from Stelios Giannakopolous.

However, two minutes later, Wright-Philips brought the home side level with his first goal since July, chipping goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen from an acute angle.

Later, Ivan Campo was left to rue a missed opportunity when he sent a header wide of the post following another good delivery from Giannakopolous.

And, with the scores tied at 1-1 going into the break, it looked to be a tight encounter between the sides.

But after the break, Sylvain Distin soon signalled the home team's intent by putting City ahead in the 48th minute.

Within minutes of Bolton coach Sam Allardyce bringing on Mario Jardel, Wright-Phillips scored his second of the game.

Anelka, who had been instrumental in the earlier goals, then notched up one of his own to pile on the misery for Bolton.

Campo tried to halt the rot with a second Bolton goal in the 60th minute.

Two minutes later, the visitors were offered a glimmer of hope when Wright-Phillips was sent off for a second bookable offence.

But Anelka and Reyna soon shattered any hopes of a comeback with two more goals to secure the rout.
