Okocha secured a crucial win for Bolton |
Bolton boss Sam Allardyce said he was confident his side could avoid the drop following victory over Spurs - and warned Leeds they could plummet into Division One. A injury-time Jay-Jay Okocha penalty secured the 1-0 win as Bolton clambered out of the relegation zone to go two points clear of third-from-bottom West Ham.
It was Bolton's second successive victory and they have now picked up 11 points from a possible 18.
"The players are ecstatic in the dressing room," said Allardyce.
"It makes a nice change to win a game right at the end.
We're on a bit of a roll - it's Leeds who look vulnerable |
"We got what we deserved and this is three massive points for us. We are now looking up, not down.
"We're on a bit of a roll now having lost just once in six matches, as are West Ham and Birmingham. It is Leeds who look vulnerable."
Leeds, who have won once in nine matches, are now just two points ahead of Bolton.
The spot kick was awarded after Gary Doherty brought down Youri Djorkaeff.
"If we play all the games like this we can survive," Djorkaeff insisted.
"I'm very happy because it's the first time we have won two games together and it's very important for morale.
Spurs manager Glenn Hoddle is facing a defensive injury crisis for the remainder of the season.
Ben Thatcher limped out of the 1-0 defeat after pulling a calf muscle.
"That is four centre-halves out now and that is a big concern for us," said Hoddle.
Hoddle had no complaints over the award of the penalty.
"I thought it was a penalty, but to lose like that is a sickener.
"In the first half we looked the better side but in the second Bolton were more direct and we got stretched."
