Three weeks ago, Sir Alex Ferguson's men looked dead and buried.

They had been beaten by Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham and were falling way off the pace.

Now things have turned around to such an extent that some-time full-backs are popping up with wonder-goals.

With United cruising, Phil Neville received the ball from Ryan Giggs on the right wing and set off infield.

The Saints defence were content to let Neville advance, picking up runs from Ruud van Nistelrooy and Paul Scholes instead.

He didn't need another invitation, unleashing a curling shot from the edge of the box which flew past Paul Jones.

Neville was mobbed by his team-mates - and so, sadly, his stunned expression of disbelief and joy was lost to the world.
