![]() | Monday, 29 October, 2001, 16:10 GMT Schwarz's Goal of the Week ![]() BBC Sport Online's Goal of the Week is Stefan Schwarz's lob for Sunderland against Arsenal. Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman was famously lobbed by Real Zaragoza's Nayim in the 1995 European Cup Winners' Cup final in Paris. On Saturday it was Seaman's immediate successor Richard Wright who experienced that lobbing feeling. Like Nayim the Sunderland midfielder has close links with Arsenal. While Nayim played for the Gunners' north London rivals Spurs, Schwarz spent a year at Highbury in the 1990s. Schwarz's goal was not in the Nayim class, but it was a strike that shared the Spaniard's quick feet and even quicker thinking. From just outside the 18-yard box, the Swede picked up Ray Parlour's loose clearance. Schwarz controlled the ball instantly and dispatched a splendid half-volley beyond Wright, the ball going in off the inside of a post for the equaliser. With Sunderland trailing Nwankwo Kanu's 40th minute Schwarz's goal ensured the home side took a point from Saturday's game. Nayim never scored that many goals for Spurs. Neither does Schwarz for Sunderland. His last goal came on New Year's Day. | Other top Eng Prem stories: Links to more Eng Prem stories are at the foot of the page. | ||
