Clockwatch: Ipswich 2-1 Man City

All the action as Manchester City were relegated by Ipswich's dramatic late comeback at Portman Road.

0 mins: Manchester City kick off knowing they must win the three points to have any chance of avoiding relegation.

Ipswich have plenty of incentive to win though - they are still within sight of the Champions League.

3: After a bright start by the visitors Paul Dickov's shot is gathered by Richard Wright at the second attempt.

5: Jermaine Wright strikes a fierce shot from 40 yards which Carlo Nash takes in the chest.

7: Ipswich's play gathers momentum but Alun Armstrong's shot is directly at Nash. All the efforts so far have been from long range.

12: Ipswich are on top and keeping the pressure on the City backline, but Jim Magilton's through ball is shepherded behind for a goal kick.

14: Tiatto runs powerfully down the left and finds Wanchope, unmarked at the edge of the area. But the Costa Rican's shot is straight at Wright.

17: Nash is forced to clear under pressure from Armstrong after a poor back pass from Danny Granville. Ipswich force a corner but the danger is cleared after John McGreal's off-target header.

18: City are desperately defending when they need to win the game: James Scowcroft's cross is forced behind for another Ipswich corner - their third.

19: The hosts win a fourth corner immediately after Nash makes a mess of gathering Matt Holland's shot from the previous set piece. This time the ball is cleared to safety.

24: The hosts are dominating possession and Titus Bramble wins yet another corner kick after an enterprising run into the box. Nash flaps at the kick but it is cleared.

27: A sniff of a chance for Wanchope but that is all it is as Richard Wright heads away namesake Jermaine's backpass on the edge of the area.

30: Hermann Hreidarsson charges down the left but his ball throug to Martijn Reuser is too strong.

32: Wanchope and Magilton clash in the centre circle, leaving the Northern Irishman looking seriously injured.

Both men went for the ball and Stephen Lodge - refereeing his final Premiership match before retirement - takes no action.

Magilton is hobbling after lengthy treatment but will stay on for now.

37: Ipswich are back on the attack with Richard Dunne having to head over his own bar after Armstrong's cross.

With only Wanchope up front, the visitors cannot hang onto the ball, let alone attack their hosts.

37: Ipswich are back on the attack with Richard Dunne having to head over his own bar after Armstrong's cross.

With only Wanchope up front, the visitors cannot hang onto the ball, let alone attack their hosts.

43: Wanchope produces another deft flick just inside the Ipswich half, Charvet runs onto it but strikes straight at Richard Wright.

42: A rare attack for City but Tiatto gives the ball away after Wanchope's fine touch.

44: Ipswich produce one of the best chances of the half - Matt Holland volleys over after running 20 yards onto Reuser's lob over the City defence.

45: Tiatto muscles his way through the hosts' midfield but Wanchope is clearly offside as the Australian tries to play the ball through.

At the other end, Reuser heads wide as three minutes of first half injury time is announced.

Nash then saves City, coming out to block Armstrong after a clearance from Bramble catches the city backline square.

Second half: Joe Royle decides he needs another striker if his side is to score a crucial goal - Shaun Goater comes on to replace Tony Grant.

48: Goater pulls away behind McGreal but fails to control on the edge of the area. The away support howl for a penalty after contact between the two players but nothing is given.

50: City force a corner after Bramble recovers superbly to catch and tackle Dickov after the Scot's run down the right, but the attack comes to nothing.

53: A scrappy period of play after City were more encouraged by their start to the second half. Armstrong forces an Ipswich corner but there is no end result.

55: A second City substitution sees Mark Kennedy replacing Dickov.

58: After Charvet allowed Magilton to go past him, Steve Howey clears Reuser's cross under pressure from Armstrong.

His colleagues' defending from the corner is not so sure though, and Bramble almost connects at pace before Magilton's curling shot is saved.

60: Out of nothing, Wanchope's acrobatic overhead kick from the edge of the area brushes Wright's right-hand post with the Ipswich keeper beaten.

62: Jamie Clapham replaces Hreidarsson. Within seconds Armstrong latches onto a long ball but after holding off Dunne, his shot is too high.

65: City waste a chance with Dunne swinging a free kick into the area, but it is so high even the lanky Wanchope cannot reach it.

69: City probe away with Tiatto and Jeff Whitley both firing wastefully over from distance. Richard Naylor replaces Jermaine Wright for the hosts.

72: Tiatto wins a throw down the right but Charvet wastes the opportunity.

73: Poor Ipswich defending but Richard Wright is alert to clear from the onrushing Goater.

74: The breakthrough for City comes after a fierce long range shot from Wanchope could not be held by Wright. Shaun Goater gets there just ahead of the Ipswich keeper and is injured as he pokes the ball into the bottom corner of the net.
Ipswich 0-1 Man City

76: Whitley surges through as City seek a second and Wright again finds a shot too hot to handle. Goater hits the rebound again but this time it is from long range.

The effort merely confirms that Goater is injured. Spencer Prior replaces the goalscorer as Royle uses the injury as an opportunity to get a defender on.

77: Within 30 seconds of Prior's arrival Ipswich equalise as the newcomer fails to settle into the defence in time. Matt Holland surges through a gap to strike crisply past Nash's right-hand from the edge of the area.
Ipswich 1-1 Man City

80: After 25 minutes on the pitch Kennedy finally does something of note, with a shot at Wright's near post after he cut inside. The keeper gathers at the second atempt with Wanchope threatening.

83: Bramble tidies up for the umpteenth time against Wanchope - the young Ipswich defender has dominated his experienced Costa Rican opponent all night.

84: Ipswich lead and City look doomed after a dramatic turnaround. Martijn Reuser is the scorer with a header from Scowcroft's right wing cross, with nobody marking the Dutchman.
Ipswich 2-1 Man City

86: Dunne and the rest of the City defence are having a nightmare but this time Bramble's header goes past the far post with 3-1 looking a certainty.

88: Desperate City's latest attack sees Charvet's shot charged down at the edge of the area.

89: It is Ipswich who attack, despite City's need to score twice in the remaining minutes.

90: There will be three minutes of injury time.

91: Kennedy shoots high and wide after twisting and turning his way down the left.

92: A minute to go and the last rites on Manchester City's latest stay in the top flight - exactly a year since they were promoted with a 4-1 win at Blackburn.

93: The final whistle goes with City still probing for an opening. City are relegated while Ipswich still have a chance of third place.
