Macclesfield eased their relegation fears as emergency striker Ross Draper helped secure a tight win over Crewe.
The hosts scored when Draper, who normally plays in midfield, fired a powerful shot into the roof of the net.
Crewe were denied by Macc goalkeeper Jose Veiga, who saved a Clayton Donaldson penalty after the striker had been fouled in the area by Nat Brown.
Veiga then made three fine saves to deny Crewe's Shaun Miller as Macc held on for a valuable three points.
Crewe manager Dario Gradi told BBC Radio Stoke: "I wasn't very clever with the penalties, that was my fault.
"I'd made up my mind what I was going to do with it, but 'Belly' (Lee Bell) said it had already been sorted out.
"Clayton was hitting it down the middle but obviously he didn't, and if he was going to do that I should have had him practicing."
