Bradford's Tom Adeyemi scored a controversial last-minute winner to settle the clash with Rotherham.
The Bantams had gone in front when Lewis Hunt latched on to Scott Dobie's flick-on and fired into the corner.
Marcus Marshall looped a header over stranded keeper Lenny Pidgely for 1-1 after some poor defending.
Adeyemi fired a superb 25-yard effort that seemed to hit the crossbar and bounce back into play, only for the assistant referee to award a goal.
Bradford interim manager Peter Jackson told BBC Radio Leeds: "It was a massive night for me and the players - the reaction to the winning goal showed it meant to everyone here tonight.
"I thought it was a terrific game, the players showed lots of character against a team that have been in the top four all season.
"The linesman gave it (the winning goal), Ronnie Moore will say it wasn't a goal, I'll say it was so I'm sticking by that."
Rotherham manager Ronnie Moore told BBC Radio Sheffield: "It was cruel. You could tell by the reaction of the players, not only ours but theirs that they thought he'd given offside. I couldn't believe it.
"How can he possibly see that the ball's gone over the line from there? It's impossible."
"We should have had a stone wall penalty in the first half. I don't know how that's not been given.
"We got back into the game and I could only see us winning it, that's the frustrating thing."
