A late Peter Vincenti goal for Aldershot left Northampton with a fourth consecutive draw.
Ben Tozer had given the hosts the lead against the run of play when he turned the ball home from close range after the Shots failed to clear a corner.
Francis Laurent went close to making it 2-0 before Vincenti grabbed the equaliser at the far post from Alex Rodman's cross.
Cobblers' Shaun Harrad got a straight red card for kicking Anthony Charles.
Northampton Town manager Ian Sampson told BBC Radio Northampton: "It was scrappy to say the least. I think we started quite well, and I thought they'd got over the poor performance of Tuesday night.
"There seemed to be a nervousness about our play. They're going through a bad run of form at the moment.
"We're trying to pass the ball and move it around. They're all decent players and we won't change the way we play."
Aldershot manager Dean Holdsworth told BBC Surrey: "A thoroughly deserved point. I think we deserved more than that today and I said to the players that their efforts and their ability was fantastic and I was really pleased with that.
"I think they gave a great account of themselves today.
"I think a neutral watching this game would say Aldershot are a good side, we're a passing side moving the ball well. We can get better, we can improve. Today is our best performance I've had since I've been at this football club."
