Scott Laird snatched all three points for Stevenage with a late winner against Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road.
Boro keeper Chris Day was on fine form to deny Clayton Donaldson before the break as the Alex looked for the lead.
Crewe's Byron Moore then struck the post with a curling effort from inside the penalty area on the hour mark.
But Laird was at hand to make the hosts pay when he headed home Jon Ashton's flick-on three minutes from time to end the visitors' six-match winless run.
Crewe manager Dario Gradi told BBC Radio Stoke: "I'd have settled for a 0-0 with five minutes to go.
"It was a cruel game for us. Sometimes you get those cruel games.
"It wasn't a great performance but I don't think we deserved to lose.
"It wasn't a Northampton performance and we didn't capitulate like we did at Rotherham."
Stevenage manager Graham Westley told BBC Three Counties Radio:
"If you talk about coming and getting on top of the home environment, dominating the possession in the first half, and frustrating the crowd, this was a classic away performance and a very important three points.
"Our focus was on dominating possession of the ball, looking to build our chances. I thought we played well without particularly cutting them open in the first half.
"There were good passages of play from both sides. The pitch cut up but you are going to expect that at this time of the year."
