League leaders Chesterfield recorded their fourth draw in five matches after a high-octane stalemate with Bury.
Craig Davies opened the scoring for the visitors, picking up the ball after Efe Sodje's slip and slotting home.
The home side hit back seconds after the restart through Ryan Lowe, who collected Steve Schumacher's pass and slid the ball past keeper Tommy Lee.
Chesterfield's Dean Smalley was given his marching orders late on for two bookable offences.
Bury manager Alan Knill told BBC Radio Manchester:
"You can't afford to give teams like this a 1-0 start but the good thing for for me is that in the past we would have lost this game.
"We've lost one out of four this month and we're playing well.
"If we continue to play how we have done tonight I think we're going in the right direction."
Chesterfield manager John Sheridan told BBC Radio Sheffield:
"It's a good point considering Bury have a game in hand. It's important that we've got a positive result, they've not gained on us really.
"I thought first half we played very well, I thought we passed the ball and moved the ball.
"We went in at half-time, I was comfortable with the first half performance, obviously 1-0 up, but you go in and you talk, you can talk all day, you tell them what they should be doing and what's been effective for us first-half, and then we go out and concede after 45 seconds."
