Two late goals secured three points for Rotherham over promotion rivals Crewe.
An uneventful first half burst into life two minutes before the break when Rotherham skipper Nick Fenton turned in Marcus Marshall's mis-hit cross.
Crewe equalised when Lee Bell put through Ajay Leitch-Smith, who looked offside, but he rounded a defender before finding the bottom corner.
Adam Le Fondre notched his 19th goal of the season with a lob over Rhys Taylor before Ryan Taylor lashed in the third.
Rotherham manager Ronnie Moore told BBC Radio Sheffield: "It looked at one stage that it was going to be a bad result for us"
"I thought we played some good stuff tonight and I'm still a bit dubious about the goal that got given. It looked off side. I thought we defended well.
"Give my lads credit, they've worked hard, dug in there and we could not ask more from them. Crewe boss Dario Gradi told BBC Radio Stoke: "That was six goals during the week and three today, you're not going to win anything like that - that's relegation form.
"You can look at the play-offs but i'm still looking at relegation because the teams are doing well down there."
"If we carry on defending like that we could be in a bit of trouble, I mean why David Artell wants to defend like Beckenbauer at the back, God only knows."
