Stand-in striker Bilel Mohsni made it three goals in a week to help Southend United earn their first home win since October in style.
Usually a defender, Mohsni converted from Ryan Hall's cross before Hall smashed home number two.
And Hall then laid on Mohsni again and Southend were in dreamland as Craig Easton made it 4-0 before the break, converting Mohsni's deflected shot.
Macclesfield's Colin Daniel fired home a late consolation from 12 yards.
Southend United manager Paul Sturrock told BBC Essex: "I think there have been a lot of games that we could have won and should have won but made some dramatic mistakes that's cost us dear.
"I think tonight lady luck has shone on us with a couple of goals that we don't normally score.
"But, at the end of the day, it turned into an exceptional performance."
