Battling Crewe held out for 45 minutes with 10 men to move up into the automatic promotion places.
Clayton Donaldson opened the scoring for the Alex early on from Shaun Miller's cross before Shane Duff levelled for Bradford with a header.
But seconds later Byron Moore finished a one-on-one to claim the winner.
The hosts had to hang on after Donaldson headbutted David Syers although Moore had the best of the second-half chances.
