Two first-half goals from Jack Midson helped Southend claim their third away win of the season against Cheltenham.
The Oxford loanee opened the scoring early on when he headed in past keeper Scott Brown who lost his balance.
And moments later they doubled their lead when Midson turned to convert Sean Clohessy's pinpoint cross.
Cheltenham's best chance came early in the second half through Jeff Goulding but his header was cleared off the line by visiting keeper Glenn Morris.
Cheltenham manager Mark Yates told BBC Radio Gloucestershire: "That's as poor a performance as we've had this season. I'm embarrassed about it to be honest. We got bullied, especially in the first half.
"I found a few things out about one or two. Too many were beaten by their opponent. We couldn't clear it or pass it, we couldn't do anything and we didn't work hard enough and if you don't do that you're not going to deserve anything."
"I don't want to see that sort of performance again. It was disgusting and Neil [Howarth] has said that's got to be the kick up the backside that keeps us on our toes."
Southend United manager Paul Sturrock told BBC Essex: "It's taken a long time to come. That was more like the way we started the season.
"There was a work-rate and a commitment to the cause. From the first whistle, we were right on the front foot.
"If we keep playing like that we're going to win a lot of games."
