Chesterfield remain top of League Two after a win at Aldershot.
Shots had the better of a largely forgettable first hour, Wade Small beating two defenders but firing just past the post.
The Spireites went ahead through top scorer Craig Davies' brilliant chip from just inside the penalty area.
They doubled their lead two minutes later, Davies heading the ball to Jack Lester, who squared for Danny Whitaker to shoot low into the net.
Aldershot boss Kevin Dillon told BBC Surrey: "We performed well this season but it's just the 18 yard box that's been the difference.
"We had chances but they were more clinical than us. That's why they're top of the league - they've scored a lot of goals.
"I can't fault the effort the boys put in. We couldn't find the net. I wouldn't say Chesterfield defended well - I'd say we didn't attack particularly well.
"We weren't clever enough around the box and our shooting was terrible."
Chesterfield manager John Sheridan told BBC Radio Sheffield: "It was a good positive result and a solid team performance from us.
"I think we deserved to win the game against a very good footballing side.
"Credit goes to the back four and the keeper, they worked very hard against a good side."
