Shrewsbury came from behind to earn a point at Stevenage.
The hosts dominated the first half and went ahead early on when Chris Holroyd clinically converted Lawrie Wilson's pass into the area.
Shrews keeper Chris Neal then had to produce fine saves to deny Ben May and Michael Bostwick.
But Stevenage were pegged back by a resurgent Shrewsbury when Benjamin Van den Broek's cross offered Matt Harrold a simple chance from 10 yards.
Stevenage manager Graham Westley told BBC Three Counties Radio: "We did enough over the ninety minutes to win it. It was an awful goal to concede, it's not what we do, concede soft goals.
"We scored the goal in the first half, we had the advantage. There was no reason to concede and we are very disappointed to lose those points.
"We have got to be ruthless with sides. We have got to put them away. We are too content to miss chances, and think we'd get the next one."
Shrewsbury manager Graham Turner told BBC Radio Shropshire: "We knew it was going to be tough, but to give them a head start by conceding from a silly free-kick early on was crazy.
"And I've got to say in the first 15-20 minutes Stevenage were on top and we got a bit of a bettering.
"But in the second half we showed a bit of composure, got a well-worked goal, and we have to be pleased with the point."
