A brace from Stevenage midfielder John Mousinho ensured Barnet stayed bottom of League Two.
Mousinho put the visitors ahead with a rasping shot into the bottom corner that gave keeper Jake Cole no chance.
Boro added a second through captain Mark Roberts, who slid in to tap home a Ronny Henry free-kick, which had been headed across goal by Michael Bostwick.
Mousinho got his second from the penalty spot after Jordan Parkes was adjudged to have handballed.
Stevenage manager Graham Westley told BBC Three Counties Radio: "It wasn't the best performance from us and we didn't retain the ball very well.
"But our organisation and our work ethic has seen us through.
"We've kept a clean sheet by being resilient and working hard, then at the other end we've scored a couple of set plays."
