Torquay dominated and missed a penalty but eventually had to settle for an entertaining draw with Shrewsbury.
The hosts took the lead when Jake Robinson dispossessed Mark Ellis and fired in off the post.
Elliot Benyon was brought down in the area by Shrews keeper Chris Neal, however Nicky Wroe struck his penalty woefully high and wide.
But Benyon equalised from the spot after Eunan O'Kane was brought down by Shane Candsell-Sherriff.
Shrewsbury Town manager Graham Turner told BBC Radio Shropshire: "The draw was the best we could have hoped for given the circumstances.
"You have to give credit to Torquay who passed the ball well.
"I thought the last 15 minutes we were starting to grind them down without creating any clear-cut chances, but they on this showing looked a decent team."
Torquay United manager Paul Buckle told BBC Radio Devon: "I'm delighted with the performance today, I thought we controlled the game and at times dominated it.
"To have the courage to go and play like that on the back of two defeats, you've got to give credit to the players.
"That sort of performance, away from home, at this size of club, gives us a lot to work on."
