Chris Holroyd scored a fine hat-trick to move Football League new boys Stevenage up to the play-off zone.
The striker hammered home early from Lawrie Wilson's cross before Sean Canham levelled from Ryan Valentine's cross just after the break.
Jon Ashton's header put Boro back in front before Holroyd made the game safe with a close-range finish.
And the hitman then banged in his fourth of the season to keep Hereford bottom of the table.
Hereford manager Simon Davey told BBC Hereford & Worcester: "The back four wasn't good enough - end of story - and it was down to basic errors.
"Ryan Valentine in the first half put us on the back foot and then [Michael] Townsend in the second half again puts you on the back foot when we were well on top in the game.
"We had got a head of steam up and we had got a goal back - there was only one team going to go on and win that and another mistake and you are 2-1 down.
"Then another mistake in the middle of the park when Sam Gwynne lets the ball go over his foot and they break and score - I can't legislate for it as at the end of the day you can only tell them to do their jobs so many times."
Stevenage manager Graham Westley told BBC Three Counties Radio: "I think the team worked very hard for the points today, we knew this would be a difficult place to come.
"The lads were persistent and I think the important thing was the character they showed having conceded the early goal in the second half.
"You know they're going to have their moments but in all honesty we coped with them fairly well on the whole."
