Torquay held off a spirited Port Vale comeback to remain top of League Two.
The Gulls took the lead when Vale keeper Stuart Tomlinson brought down Chris Zebrowski in the area, Nicky Wroe slotting home the resulting penalty.
Torquay doubled their lead when Zebrowski bundled home from close range, before Anthony Griffith pulled one back with a long-range shot.
Vale came close through Justin Richards in the second-half but found Torquay keeper Scott Bevan in fine form.
