Lincoln City registered their first win of the season against a below-par Gillingham side.
Cian Hughton gave the Imps the lead inside the first 10 minutes, finishing well after Gills keeper Alan Julian parried Albert Jarrett's effort.
Imps keeper Joe Anyon was forced into action in the second half by Danny Spiller and Adebayo Akinfenwa, who later hit the post.
Anyon also saved well from sub Luke Rooney as Lincoln held out for the win.
Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler told BBC Radio Kent: "It wasn't good enough, it's as simple as that.
"I'm not sure it was fair (to boo us off) but we have high expectations. We have to bounce back.
"If 10 games in we are performing like that we have a problem, but after ten game we will get the true picture. I believe it will look a bit rosier"
Lincoln City manager Chris Sutton told BBC Lincolnshire:
"We rode our luck a little bit but I thought we did well.
In the second half we didn't really look under pressure and we could have done better going forward, but having said that, we were fantastic.
"Clean sheets are important and I thought Ian Pearce organised the defence well and Jamie Clapham did well in settling us down in midfield.
"That may be what we've missed - when it gets a bit frenetic we've got people who can put in effort and determination but at times you need someone to steady things and I thought they were exceptional and led from the front."
