Former Aldershot striker Scott Rendell was on target as Torquay dented the Shots' play-off hopes with a shock win.
Louie Soares stung the hands of Torquay keeper Michael Poke but it was the visitors who took the lead as Elliot Benyon saw off Aaron Brown to fire in.
Shots keeper Jamie Young palmed a Kevin Nicholson free-kick on to the bar as Torquay took control.
And their dominance was rewarded when Rendell bundled home after a Chris Zebroski cross caused confusion.
Aldershot manager Kevin Dillon told BBC Surrey:
"You've got to look at it with the perspective of the season. We've been terrific, and the players have taken expectation levels up to what they are now.
"We never got going tonight. From number one to 11, there was no spark. The left-back did OK, and that was about it.
"The only reason the place is buzzing is because of the players. Everything's on the up at the club at the moment and that's down to the players. This is just a blip as far as I'm concerned."
Torquay manager Paul Buckle told BBC Radio Devon:
"It was a great night for us again, a clean sheet, two very good goals and I felt we were in control for most of the night.
"I feel our performances have been good all season, we've been very close and our goal difference has improved again.
"We're turning those nearly's into wins now which is fantastic - and at just the right time."
