On-loan Davide Somma scored a goal in each half as Lincoln boosted their chances of avoiding the drop by beating promotion-chasing Bournemouth.
Alan Connell shot wide for Bournemouth before Somma converted Chris Herd's flick-on to put the Imps ahead.
The Cherries levelled when Brett Pitman bundled in Rhoys Wiggins' free-kick.
But as Bournemouth pushed for a winner, Lincoln broke and Matt Saunders' ball over the top set up Somma to smash home his second of the game from 25 yards.
Imps manager Chris Sutton was sent to the stands in the closing stages, but the three points lift his side nine points clear of the relegation zone with five games remaining.
Bournemouth remain in the third and final automatic promotion place, six points above the play-off places, after none of the five teams immediately below them managed to win.
Lincoln City manager Chris Sutton told BBC Lincolnshire: "At half-time I said to the players that we couldn't rest on our laurels because they were a threat, and we defended resolutely.
"I thought it was a harsh free-kick given for the goal and at 1-1 I just wanted us to stay in the game, but David produced a fantastic finish and we saw the game out.
"We can still improve in a lot of areas but in the end it's about the result, I'm pleased for the players and seeing how other games have gone, it's a big result for us."
Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe told BBC Radio Solent:
"I thought by far we were the better team, but sometimes the better team doesn't always win and unfortunately we conceded two poor goals.
"We passed the ball really well on a difficult pitch and created numerous chances. On another day we'd have won the game quite comfortably.
"If we can re-create that performance then we'll win 99% of the games."
