Cheltenham Town won for the third time in seven days to dent Bury's hopes of reaching the League Two play-offs.
Justin Richards scored a penalty after keeper Wayne Brown saw red for his foul on the Robins striker before Matt Thornhill converted a Josh Low cross.
Low's cross-shot made it 3-0 before a late glut of four goals in six minutes.
Ryan Lowe struck twice, first a penalty after Lee Ridley's foul, then rounding keeper Scott Brown to make it 3-2. But Low and Barry Hayles sealed victory.
Cheltenham's win was vital, given that the two teams around them both won too, keeping Mark Yates' men 22nd, just one place above the drop zone - but still seven points clear of safety.
Cheltenham Town manager Mark Yates told BBC Radio Gloucestershire:
"We can't worry about other teams. All we can do is worry about ourselves and to keep playing like that, like we have done.
"We had a sloppy 10 minutes but, on the whole, I was delighted. For an hour, we played to our strengths, and they couldn't handle us.
"Josh Low was terrific. I had a word with him last week and told him I wanted more. He goes through games in cruise mode sometimes. But he is a good player. He's got pace, strength, quality and skill and I think he showed that today, the extra little bits that can set him apart."
Bury manager Alan Knill told BBC Radio Manchester: "We never showed the intent or desire to win this game, and we're all unbelievably disappointed.
"We've got the same players that have performed well all season, but today we haven't turned up.
"It's a pretty worrying situation. I can't describe any positives to take out of it. You just want to put it behind you quickly and move on."
