Northampton dropped out of the League Two play-off places after being held to a goalless draw by struggling Torquay.
Town's biggest home crowd of the season were left frustrated as the visitors proved stubborn opposition.
The visitors had the best of the first half and almost went ahead from a Scott Rendell header which flew across goal.
After the break, Town's Liam Davis saw his 35-yard volley clip the top of the bar and then late on Davis also had a shot saved by Gulls keeper Scott Bevan.
Northampton Town manager Ian Sampson told BBC Radio Northampton: "They had us camped in the first half and we had them camped in the second half and the defences held out quite well.
"It was really difficult. There wasn't much football played on either side and it was a poor day all round.
"We're still unbeaten in eight games so we have to take positives out of that."
Torquay United manager Paul Buckle told BBC Radio Devon: "I'm very pleased, I thought we were organised from minute one and a point was the minimum we deserved.
"We're very pleased with a point in the end, although I'm slightly disappointed we didn't take all three.
"I felt we controlled the game first half and really put Northampton under a lot of pressure and again you're thinking that with the couple of chances we had we should have put them away."
