Bury bounced back from their 5-0 defeat at Notts County on Saturday to record a win over ten-man Burton that lifts them back into the play-off places.
Albion's Tony James diverted David Worrall's drive into his own net to give Bury the lead with their first goal from open play since 9 February.
Substitute Andy Morrell nipped in to poke in Bury's second before beating the Albion defence to add a third.
Bury substitute Michael Jones saw red late on for a second bookable offence.
Bury manager Alan Knill told BBC Radio Manchester:
"You could just feel the tension lift from around the ground that at last.
"It did take a little bit of luck to get that first one, but who cares, but credit to them if you don't shoot you don't get that luck."
Burton boss Paul Peschisolido: "I just want to apologise to the supporters really because they've travelled a long way to come here and we've not turned up again, that's two games running now.
"I want apologise personally because that's unacceptable really.
"You can't say things didn't go your way, you have to make things happen, and we didn't do that today. We were flat once again."
