Forward Luke Rodgers scored a crucial goal to hand Notts County victory over promotion rivals Rotherham.
Rodgers capitalised on a flick-on by Lee Hughes to score in the final minute just when it seemed that a goalless draw was the likely outcome.
Hughes also hit the crossbar from John Thompson's cross, while Rodgers clipped the post.
Rotherham did have the ball in the net thanks to Marcus Marshall but his effort was ruled out for offside.
Notts County manager Steve Cotterill told BBC Radio Nottingham:
"It was a game that ebbed and flowed and Rotherham came here and played their part.
"We knew it was going to be a tight game but we're not bad at these one-nils at the moment.
"Having said that we, could've been three or four up at half time and the game would've been a lot easier."
Rotherham United manager Ronnie Moore tells BBC Radio Sheffield:
'It was cruel, no doubt about that, I never saw it coming to be honest.
"I thought for 15 minutes we were at sixes and sevens, they played one or two decent long balls and the two front lads caused us some problems."
