Northampton's five-match winning run was ended as they scored on 84 minutes at Lincoln to grab just a point.
On-loan Fulham midfielder Matt Saunders gave Lincoln the lead with a powerful free-kick from an acute angle.
Northampton improved and would have levelled had a drive from Ryan Gilligan not been blocked by Moses Swaibu.
They finally equalised when John Johnson got forward to volley home. Chris Herd was denied a late Lincoln winner by Jason Steele's save.
Northampton Town manager Ian Sampson tells BBC Radio Northampton:
"Given the way we played, it was a point gained. We probably deserved a draw.
"We didn't start very well, and we didn't play the pitch very well.
"We just didn't have the spark today. With a couple of half chances, we could have sneaked it at the end, but that would have been unjust on Lincoln."
