Jim Bentley's first-half strike boosted Morecambe's play-off hopes and sealed Hereford's fourth straight home defeat.
The Shrimps captain headed past Adam Bartlett from Simon Hackney's far-post cross to clinch a deserved win.
Phil Jevons missed a gilt-edged chance to double the lead when he scuffed the ball wide with an open goal gaping.
At the other end, Morecambe goalkeeper Barry Roche made fine saves from Marc Pugh and Leon Constantine but the visitors held on for the victory.
Hereford director of football Graham Turner told BBC Hereford and Worcester: "We worked very hard but there was a degree of panic early in the game where we knocked in too many long balls, but once we started to get it down I thought we got the ball into good areas.
"Whatever chances Morecambe have had I thought we have had a number of good opportunities including two from set pieces and two the goalkeeper has saved with his feet.
"There was a lot of balls into the box in the second half and you expect something to be finished off when you have got as much pressure on the opposition as that."
