Macclesfield earned a convincing victory over 10-man Bury with a goal in each half.
Craig Lindfield had already gone close with a volley before Emile Sinclair's cross set up Ben Wright to score from eight yards with his left foot.
A Michael Jones free-kick hit the post and Ryan Lowe's shot was blocked on the line as Bury searched for an equaliser.
But then Lowe saw red for an off-the-ball incident and on 57 minutes Lindfield netted from close range.
Macclesfield Interim Manager Gary Simpson told BBC Radio Manchester:
"I thought from start to finish they put more than a shift in, absolutely worked their socks off and thoroughly deserved the victory.
"We've just got to keep going now until the end of the season. Once we get to the end of the season and hopefully this club is still in this division.
"We can't let this slip now, we've got to keep going for him until the end of the season and make sure this club is still here and in this division."
Bury manager Alan Knill told BBC Radio Manchester:
"I'm not going to say that the referee has cost us the game because he hasn't.
"We didn't defend well enough on two occasions and they scored two goals, and at the other end we didn't take our chances.
"We're fortunate that the teams around us that when we've had a blip teams around us haven't done too well either."
